Haktari members medal haul at the 2010 all schools Tae Kwon Do Championships

The 19th NSW All Schools Taekwondo Tournament was held at Shore School on the 4th September. Well over two hundred competitors represented 75 schools were competing for a a series of individual medals and 4 perpetual tropies – shields.

Results below:

Macquarie Bank Cup is awarded to the primary school with the highest team total.

1st St Patrick’s, Lithgow – 20 points;

2nd Sydney Grammar Prep, St Ives – 19 points

3rd Lindfield East PS & Cooerwull PS – 13 points

Headmasters Shield is awarded to the primary school with the best team average.

1st Cooerwull PS & Lindfield East PS – 2.6
3rd Wahroonga PS – 2.2
Pahlke Cup is awarded to the Boys School with the highest team average.
1st Sydney Grammar – 37 points
2nd St Ignatius’ College, Riverview – 32 points
3rd Shore School – 30 points
High School Team Average Trophy
1st Lithgow HS – 2.5 team average
2nd Barker College & St Ignatius’ College – 2.28 team average


Haktari members dominate the 2010 Blue Mountains Tae Kwon Do Championships

Hosted by Haktari Taekwondo Academy, the 2010 Blue Mountains Championship boasted an impressive eighty two match fight card as well as a poomsae comp. Head Instructor, Master Jeff Crane, utilised the opportunity to blood some new fighters to the increasingly popular Sport Taekwondo.

josh egan in red One of Haktari’s newest taekwondo fighters, Josh Egan, was the talk of the 2010 Blue Mountains Taekwondo Championships. In only his second tournament, Josh was very impressive, with convincing victories in not only his own weight division, but also successfully stepping up to a heavier, more experienced opponent.
sam hamment in blue Sam Hamment was rewarded for a great effort leaving his first match with an excellent 8 – 1 win, to progress to the medal round. In his second match, he went down to a more experienced opponent.
Keiran Brown in red Not to be outdone, Keighran Brown caused James Thomson all sorts of problems, and was dominant throughout his match, taking an awesome 7-0 win.
Lauren Corney was Haktari’s third first time fighter, and she too was very impressive, taking a 7-0 win over Red belt opponent, Renae Cali. With the bout stopped in the first round, after the maximum seven point gap was reached in just thirty seven seconds.

In a return to Sport Taekwondo Rory Charlton’s speed was too much for Joel Stefanick, with Rory winning convincingly 8-0.

Brielle Mendham in red Brielle Mendham faced a strong opponent in her first match. Although the referee awarded the fight to Brielle after multiple head kick penalties by her opponent, she was convincing in the 5-0 win. In Brielle’s second match she dominated over her higher graded Blue belt opponent taking victory 8-1.

Serena Ma in red

In an entertaining match, Serena Ma overshadowed Nicole Stoica of Sydney’s Kwok Taekwondo, in a full three round bout in a 12-6 win. Serena also provided more crowd entertainment, with an edge of the seat golden point decider over a much bigger opponent. With the golden point round timing out the fight was awarded to her opponent in a judge’s decision.
Pres in blue Presley Johnson contested his own blue belt division, and won in convincing fashion over Liam Calli 8-1. He then fought one of former World Champion Master Hongs fighters, in a Black Belt match. In an amazing effort Presley dominated over his much more experienced opponent, with victory never being in doubt, the clock being stopped at 8 points to one. The Junior Fighter of the tournament was awarded to Presley after his win, and he drew the admiration of a number of coaches for his efforts.

Laura Whichelo narrowly avoided a loss to her junior red belt opponent, with the match going to golden point, eventuating in Laura’s favour. This spurred Laura to a much stronger performance taking her black belt contest against Amy Newland to a 5-1 victory.

Adrian Ma in red Adrian Ma had a busy day with two bouts in his Red belt division, followed by a match in the stronger black belt class. Adrian won 8-2 in his first match, but narrowly lost the final match 6 -4. His black belt fight was hotly contested, going the full three rounds, with Adrian ultimately outclassing his opponent, Won Kim of Hongs, to a 2-1 victory.
Mady Whyte in blue Showing her versatility Madalen Whyte was also matched in two divisions, red belt, and also the premier black belt class. Maddy was convincing in her Red belt match taking the final to a 12-7 victory. In a torrid contest, the Black belt bout was awarded to Madalen 4-0.
RoAmy Muir in blue Amy Muir was less fortunate than her team mates, going down to Hillary Hayden 5-2, after a talented and consistent effort.
RoBryce Altman in blue Two of Haktari’s most talented Black Belt fighters, in Bryce Altman, and Brandan Partridge were also unlucky on the day, with both boys going down to their much taller and heavier opponents.
Ethan Corney in blueHayley Robson in blue Following on from their New Zealand Open victories, Ethan Corney and Hayley Robson made quick work of their opponents. Hayley was too fast and classy for Madisson Calli winning 7-0. Ethan peppered his opponent with fast, hard kicks taking victory over Red Belt Damian Hempstead 10 -3, with ten seconds remaining in the first round.

With the junior fights complete, the senior fighters took to the floor with straight victories to all of Haktari’s seniors.

Elise Dare in red Following on from Egan’s awesome effort, Elise Dare stamped her authority in her comeback bout, winning 10-0. In her final bout, Lorna Munro proved to be stiffer competition taking the fight to the wire, with a consistent Dare eventuating as the winner 16-14.
Misty Walsh in blue Haktari Assistant Instructor, Misty Walsh also maintained her winning streak taking her first fight 6-1. Misty narrowly avoided a KO in her second bout after taking a strong kick to the head, and bravely regained her senses to finish the match strongly. Much to the delight of her students, Walsh emerged victor 12-6, finishing the days fighting in fitting fashion.

Haktari continued with its success in the Pattern Competition.

Yellow/Blue Belt Under 10 years: 1st – Presley Johnson, 3rd – Brielle Mendham, 5th – Edwina Griffiths.

 Red belt Under 10 years: 2nd – Hayley Robson

 Yellow Belt 11-16 yrs: 1st Lauren Corney

 Red Belt 11-16 yrs: 2nd – Amy Muir, 3rd – Casey Robson, 4th – Alex Kwong & Adrian Ma

 Black Belt 11-16 yrs: 1st – Brandan Partridge, 2nd – Hannah Muir, 3rd – Bryce Altman.

 Red Belt Over 16 yrs: 3rd – Richelle Hamment

 Haktari Head Instructor Jeff Crane was extremely proud of all his students and their great effort in the competition, “A competition such as the Blue Mountains Championship does not come together without a significant effort by all the team at Haktari Taekwondo Academy. All the Sparring and Pattern competitors have trained very hard, and certainly deserve to enjoy their success today. They show great potential, and we look forward to further success at upcoming tournaments.”

On the 17th and 18th April, Nine members of the Haktari Tae Kwon Do Academy travelled to New Zealand to compete in the New Zealand Open 2010. Here competitors came from the Pacific / Oceania region including Samoa, Tonga, New Caledonia, Australia, North + South islands of New Zealand as well as South Africa.

For a number of the Haktari club members, this was their first international event. With 14 medals awarded to just 9 members, the results speak for themselves.

Being an international event, standards were high, with some very tough fights for members who gave their all representing their country and club.
