Haktari members dominate the 2010 Blue Mountains Tae Kwon Do Championships
Hosted by Haktari Taekwondo Academy, the 2010 Blue Mountains Championship boasted an impressive eighty two match fight card as well as a poomsae comp. Head Instructor, Master Jeff Crane, utilised the opportunity to blood some new fighters to the increasingly popular Sport Taekwondo.
Sam Hamment was rewarded for a great effort leaving his first match with an excellent 8 – 1 win, to progress to the medal round. In his second match, he went down to a more experienced opponent.
Not to be outdone, Keighran Brown caused James Thomson all sorts of problems, and was dominant throughout his match, taking an awesome 7-0 win.
In a return to Sport Taekwondo Rory Charlton’s speed was too much for Joel Stefanick, with Rory winning convincingly 8-0.
In an entertaining match, Serena Ma overshadowed Nicole Stoica of Sydney’s Kwok Taekwondo, in a full three round bout in a 12-6 win. Serena also provided more crowd entertainment, with an edge of the seat golden point decider over a much bigger opponent. With the golden point round timing out the fight was awarded to her opponent in a judge’s decision.
Laura Whichelo narrowly avoided a loss to her junior red belt opponent, with the match going to golden point, eventuating in Laura’s favour. This spurred Laura to a much stronger performance taking her black belt contest against Amy Newland to a 5-1 victory.

All the Sparring and Pattern competitors have trained very hard, and certainly deserve to enjoy their success today. They show great potential, and we look forward to further success at upcoming tournaments.”
“On behalf of all the students at Haktari, I would like to thank all the parents, friends, and volunteers that contributed both leading up to the tournament, and on the competition day. Without their effort, the tournament simply wouldn’t be possible”.

New Zealand Open 2010

Club members scoop the New Zealand Open 2010
On the 17th and 18th April, Nine members of the Haktari Tae Kwon Do Academy travelled to New Zealand to compete in the New Zealand Open 2010. Here competitors came from the Pacific / Oceania region including Samoa, Tonga, New Caledonia, Australia, North + South islands of New Zealand as well as South Africa.
For a number of the Haktari club members, this was their first international event. With 14 medals awarded to just 9 members, the results speak for themselves.
Being an international event, standards were high, with some very tough fights for members who gave their all representing their country and club.
